Why You Should Microchip Your Pet
Updated: Oct 3, 2022
Microchipping your pet is one of the best ways to keep your pet safe. Microchipping allows a lost pet to be identified more quickly. Unlike collar id tags, a microchip cannot fall off or get lost. Microchipping involves a small identification chip with a unique number being inserted right under the skin of your pet. Typically, this will be done around the neck area since there is extra skin there. All the information you provide is available on that chip. You will be given information on how to register your chip for your pet so that you can updated if needed.
Should your pet get lost, they can be taken to any vet’s office or animal shelter to be scanned. When scanned, the information you have provided will allow you to be contacted and be reunited with your pet. Some companies will allow you to add additional medical information, should your pet need medications or have certain medical conditions.
Microchipped pets are 20x more likely to be returned to their owners than pets that only have a collar tag. Microchipping is available at most vet’s office. This short appointment can save you so much heartache should you and your pet ever be separated.
